Welcome to Fall 2019

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

Fellow Students,

Cooper Richason, Student President of Western Technical College

Welcome to Western for the 2019-2020 school year. I hope that everyone has had a summer filled of relaxation, new experiences, and time with family and friends. I hope that this new school year brings you opportunities to grow as a student and reach your academic or professional aspirations.

To new students, Western can be a place of abundant opportunities to build the life you envision, and everyone here at Western stands behind you. We are home to amazing faculty who are invested in your success, and Western offers abundant services to help you succeed. Lastly, there are also ample opportunities to get involved and find your niche on campus

Western is home to over 30 clubs and student organizations. These range from program specific to diversity-focused. If we don’t have what you are looking for, make your own club! Western is always adding new clubs and student organizations.

Those of you returning this fall may notice some changes. Western will be opening our new Student Success Center, which will be a tremendous asset to students. I personally plan to take advantage of the student services and free tutoring!

Now, as Student President, I would be remised if I didn’t plug Western Student Government as well as the many services that we fund. *Cue shameless plug*

For new and returning students alike, joining Western Student Government can be a rewarding experience and a great way to get to know your community. Our executive team is filled with passionate students who want to make a difference on campus and be part of important conversations. Issues that face students like the new street parking signs go through student government and our committees. If you are interested in joining student government, our parliamentarian position is currently open! Email vangg@westerntc.edu to apply and more information about the position is available on our website: westernsg.org/run-for-office.

Other opportunities to get involved in Western Student Government include sitting on one of our committees (Appropriations, Student Legislative Affairs, or Campus Events) or volunteering for Operation River Watch. More information on both of these can also be found on the student government website!

Again, I hope that each of you has a great year, and I look forward to seeing many of you around campus.

Go Cavaliers!
